Overview
XCAM Scientific is a world leader in specialist imaging and detector systems, supporting demanding applications across space, science, industrial, and advanced research markets.
As we prepare for our next phase of growth, we are seeking a highly capable Technical Sales Manager with a strong background in imaging and detector technology, commercial acumen, and the ambition to develop into a long-term leader within the business. This role is central to our succession planning.
The successful candidate will help us scale our standard products, reduce reliance on ultra-specialised knowledge, and expand our market presence while contributing to the long-term evolution of the business.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
- Manage and grow global sales of XCAM’s standard imaging and detector products.
- Provide technically informed advice to customers, supporting optimal detector selection based on SNR, frame rate, sensitivity, and other performance parameters.
- Develop and execute sales strategies to meet annual order intake targets.
- Build, manage, and support an international network of distributors and resellers, particularly for VacCam and PFO product lines.
- Represent XCAM at international conferences, customer meetings, and industry events (regular global travel required).
Productisation & Market Insight
- Support efforts to productionise key products to enable higher-volume sales and smoother internal succession.
- Work closely with engineering and production teams to improve product documentation, specifications, and customer support materials.
- Feed structured and factual market intelligence into R&D planning to guide future product development.
Sales Operations & Analytics
- Own and improve usage of Salesforce/CRM, ensuring consistent data capture, opportunity tracking, and reporting.
- Analyse sales performance, win/loss reasons, and pipeline conversion metrics to drive continuous improvement.
- Work with the finance team to develop structured costing templates, gathering accurate cost inputs to support pricing and margin management.
Proposal & Documentation Support
- Contribute to writing proposals, technical specifications, and sales documentation.
- Collaborate with internal technical writers and engineers to produce clear, high-quality customer-facing materials.
Long-Term Team Development
- Become a long-term member of the XCAM team with potential to grow into a leadership role within sales and business development.
- Build succession capability by becoming an internal expert on standard products and supporting the training of junior team members.
Required Experience & Skills
Technical Expertise
- Strong background in imaging, detector science, or a related field (degree or PhD preferred).
- Ability to understand and communicate technical trade-offs such as SNR, frame rate, detector choice, and electronics performance.
- Commercial mindset with the ability to bridge deep technical knowledge and customer needs.
Sales & Commercial Skills
- Demonstrated motivation to achieve targets and drive commercial outcomes.
- Experience in technical sales, business development, or customer-facing scientific roles.
- Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills.
Collaboration & Organisation
- Experience working with CRM systems (Salesforce ideal) and using data to improve performance.
- Ability to build strong relationships with distributors, partners, and customers.
- Willingness to travel internationally.
