Job Title: Test Technician

Job requirement: The role requires the accurate testing and data collection and reporting of high value,
complex detection systems, maintaining high levels of quality and safety

Full-time: 37.5 hours per week

Core hours: 8am to 5.30pm Monday to Thursday, 8am to 4.30pm Friday

Introduction

Photek Ltd is a privately owned company located in East Sussex currently employing just over 60 people. Our core business
is design and manufacture of specialised imaging detectors and systems covering a diverse range of industries from
aerospace to biomedical. Applications for such detectors include the detection of single photons and ultrafast cameras
capable of sub-nanosecond exposure times.

Job Summary
• The job will involve working in the different test areas of production, to include main test / Solar Blind / PMT test
areas.
• The role will require work to be carried out in a dark room environment from time to time.
• The role requires close working relationships with; other production staff on a daily basis; the engineering and
assembly departments when required and the operations management team to ensure production plans are met.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Testing and recording of various optical and electrical properties of vacuum devices.
  • Wiring and assembling detectors ready for shipment to customers.
  • Use of automated equipment used in Test processes.
  • Completion of paperwork, recording data.
  • Use of welding and/or soldering equipment.
  • Measurement of parts and inspection (possibly using microscope).
  • Follow detailed written production and test procedures.
  • Basic fault finding.
  • Data entry into databases and/or similar Office software
  • Ensuring that sufficient due care is taken in order to maintain the required quality standard in all test processes.
  • Complete operations within given time frame.
  • Good communication skills and able to work in several teams.
  • Communicating problems and potential delays to the test engineer or test manager in a timely manner.
  • The role may include other reasonable duties or tasks that aid in the production of Photek products

Person Specification

Essential

  • Good level of education with a minimum of A-Level Science or Physics,
    or equivalent.
  • Relevant experience of working in a production environment testing and assembling small complex components.
  • Good understanding of the English language both written and verbal.
  • Good attention to detail to accurately follow work instructions and documented procedures.
  • High level of dexterity and the ability to test complex systems using different types of equipment.
  • Good level of computer literacy (to include use of programs)

Desirable  

  • An understanding of Electronic Systems Testing / Soldering.
